SOUTHERN DEVELOPMENT AREA

A key part of our 2050 Masterplan is the development of land at the southern end of the airport precinct for aircraft hangars and other airport-related industry. Our Masterplan aims to ensure there’s sufficient land made available for businesses wanting to operate from the airport.

The first stage of this development was the creation of Kuaka Way, a new access road to the area, and construction of the GO Rentals car grooming and maintenance facility, completed in 2023.

The next phases will see staged development of this area, currently occupied by the Long Stay Carpark. As carpark land is redeveloped for tenants, we will need to replace this parking space elsewhere on the airport precinct. We have been granted resource consent to open up a landlocked area of airport land on the other side of Jenkins Creek via new vehicle and pedestrian bridges from Trent Drive.

The separate bridges for vehicles and pedestrians will open up an area of land across Jenkins Creek for a new carpark with approximately double the capacity of the existing Long Stay Carpark.

Environmental considerations are top of mind for the development, including a volunteered resource consent condition to significantly enhance the flora along Jenkins Creek, as well as species surveys and management plans. High-quality stormwater and sediment management systems are also integral to the projects.

The next step is to commission detailed design for the bridges. Timing for this has not been confirmed, nor is there a start date currently planned for physical works. Timing for the work will be dependent on market interest in the southern development area, and our capital budget planning processes.

We are likely to carry out early enabling works within the next six months, such as removing vegetation in the area where the new bridges and associated carriageways will be constructed.
