Airport Perimeter Walkway

Partial Walkway Closure - 11 November 2024 - July 2025

A 1.4 kilometre section of the walkway is closed to the public for a six-month period while apron reconstruction works take place.

The closure is an essential safety measure, as a large volume of construction traffic will use this road to access the work site and transport excavated materials around the airport. You can still access part of the walkway as a return walk from McLaren Drive or Bolt Road through to the start of the construction management area (about where the Nelson City Council sewage station is located).

The P180 carpark prior to the airport entry barriers is also closed for the duration of the works. A pedestrian/cyclist corridor will be maintained through this carpark to accommodate those that walk/cycle across the Jenkins Creek bridge to access the airport precinct.

The map below shows the closed section of walkway in red, and the open section in green. A return walk from the area just before the Nelson Airport carpark entry barriers to the construction management area and back is approximately 7.2 kilometres return.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a walking track only, no dogs or bikes are allowed. Walkers may encounter service vehicles on the path, please take care.

Airport Perimeter Walkway - the red section is closed from 11 November 2024 - July 2025. The green section remains open to the public.
